Digital Agricultural Knowledge and Information System (DAKIS2)
Abstract
DAKIS (Digital Agricultural Knowledge and Information System) is one of the most significant research projects aimed at developing a knowledge-based agriculture of the future in Europe. Using data from models and sensors mounted on robots, drones, and satellites, the project is developing software to provide farmers with digital support for their daily decision-making. As a decision support system (DSS), the DAKIS prototype represents an innovation, as it enables, for the first time, the integration of goals for improving ecosystem services, biodiversity, and resource efficiency into business decisions. By utilizing the DAKIS DSS, the vision of the DAKIS project can be realized: an agriculture of the future that reconciles environmental and climate protection with food security and stable incomes.
The project is characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinarity and a significant focus on innovation research. To address this challenge, a use-case approach is introduced in the second half of the project, whereby software development is continued based on concrete application examples (such as the establishment of flower strips, buffer strips, hedges, grassland, and crop rotation).
In phase 2, University of Bonn will contribute in developing and testing the “Crop Rotation” use-case in SIMPLACE modeling framework and then coupling with MODAM economic model (ZALF) to evaluate the benefits of this cropping system. Specific tasks are:
- Development of target ecosystem services and collection of data of the use cases in the landscape window with a focus on arable farming
- Collection and analysis of available data for the regionalization of the models (Brandenburg and Bavaria)
