Contents
This seminar module introduces students to the development and application of Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) within the domain of Planetary Health. The module culminates in a scenario analysis project where students quantify the impacts of selected drivers on planetary health and synthesize their findings for both scientific and policy-oriented stakeholders.
The content of the module can be summarized by the following:
Theory lectures
- Foundations & Systems Thinking
- Population Growth & Global Food Demand
- Agro-Ecosystem Modelling
- Water Availability & Agricultural Constraints
- Bio-Economic Farm Modelling
- Environmental Impacts: Water Quality & Nutrients
- Climate Change & Agricultural Impacts
- Model Linkages & Critical Analysis
- Food Waste & Post-Harvest Losses
- Food Environments & Nutrition
- Agroecology and the Evolution of Agricultural Yields
- Agricultural Innovation & Technology
- Scenario Analysis & Thematic Application
- Planetary Boundaries & Policy Integration
- Course Synthesis & Final Presentations
Seminars/Exercise components
This course requires students to critically evaluate published research, understand the conceptual architecture of different models, and actively configure and parameterize selected IAM components. Students will gain hands on experience linking cropping system models (SIMPLACE) or Lintul5-CropTorch, bio-economic farm model (MODAM), and market model (IFPRI-CGE).
